It is now less than one month to departure. In March, natural photographer Alessandro Seletti will begin his adventure in Svalbard, in order to show arctic conditions and the effects of ongoing climate change. His photo project – which will evolve into a book and a documentary as well – was born from the cooperation with WWF Italy and its purpose is not only to witness climate effects on the environment, but also to provide documentary evidence on life and survival of the polar bear, which is threatened with extinction because of the melting of glaciers.
It is a serious issue, as it requires priority attention from scientific and political groups, because of its increasing development – with immeasurable consequences on the equilibrium of our entire planet. Who knows if Vikings (who discovered these islands in 1194), in front of this massive glaciers melting, would still call them Svalbard (i.e. cold shores)?
Being always sensitive to environmental sustainability, Imbalplast is now co-sponsor to this project and we will follow Alessandro’s adventure, in order to tell everyone the steps of his challenge on icebreakers and snowmobiles, by showing in advance a few images of the most breath-taking landscapes, local fauna, and the magnificent aurora borealis, of course
Short biography of Alessandro Seletti:
from Montecchio in Emilia region, he has always loved wild animals and uncontaminated landscapes of Northern Europe; he is also author of photographic books, exhibitions, and videos of great emotional impact. Since 2000, he has created a large net of cooperation with magazines, museums, and organisations, such as National Geographic.
